Discover Madrid's Royal Palace

Everything you should know before visiting the Galería de las Colecciones Reales

The Gallery of the Royal Collections is one of Madrid's most recent and outstanding museums, inaugurated in July 2023. Located within the Royal Palace complex, it offers visitors an in-depth look at the historical and artistic heritage of the Spanish monarchy. Below, we provide all the essential information to make the most of your visit.

The History of the Royal Collections Gallery Madrid

The idea of establishing a dedicated space for the royal collections dates back to the 19th century when museums linked to the Spanish monarchy's legacy first emerged. During the Second Republic, efforts were made to promote public exhibitions of these collections, particularly after the controversial demolition of the Royal Stables between 1931 and 1934, which created the need for a new space to house these treasures. The current building, located next to Almudena Cathedral and in front of the Royal Palace, was designed by an architectural firm and constructed between 2006 and 2015. After years of preparation and restoration, the gallery was inaugurated in July 2023.
